format file utf8

What is an utf8 file and how do I open an utf8 file?

The 8-bit Unicode Transformation encoding standard, more commonly known as Unicode UTF-8, is integrated into files saved in the .utf8 format. These UTF8 files are documents that contain unformatted text and usually have small file sizes compared to text documents that may contain data implemented with layout and text formatting elements. These UTF8 text documents provide ASCII backwards compatibility support. Asian character support is also available in UTF8 files, and a wide variety of languages are also supported by this text document format. Many text editing applications can be used to create, open and edit the content of these UTF8 text documents, and these include text editing programs compatible to run with Microsoft Windows-based platforms. Mac users also have a variety of options for text editing applications developed for Mac systems to create, open and edit the content of these UTF8 files. Unix users can also view and modify the content of these UTF8 text files as well as create these UTF8 files with many text editors designed to work with Unix-based systems.
