format file sty

What is a sty file and how do I open a sty file?

The STY format is also known as a LaTeX Style document, and the content of a .sty file contains definitions and descriptions of the specific styling attributes implemented by the creator of a particular LaTeX text document. These LaTeX documents can be saved in the .tex format as well as in the LTX extension. During the creation of a TEX or LTX document, a STY file can be created by the user and associated with the LTX or TEX document. These STY documents are useful for groupware collaboration work, particularly for document presentation development, since the styling descriptions found in the associated STY files will assist others in the improvement of the layout and formatting of the associated LTX or TEX document. There are many text editing software and word processing applications that can be used to open and view these STY files, and one is the TextMaker program. This application has a version for Microsoft Windows users and another version for Mac users. This means users of these two different systems can collaborate and share .sty files without any compatibility issues with the use of TextMaker. Some of the styling descriptions found in an STY file include details of formula structures, line styling definitions and text formatting attributes among other pieces of information useful for users who wish to improve the content of the TEX or LTX documents. Backslashes often precede these descriptions, while users can add their comments about particular descriptions by writing it below the description, and these comments can be differentiated from descriptions or definitions because it is preceded with the percent symbol.
