The Pro/ENGINEER software from Parametric Technology is a CAD application that uses files with the .prt extension as part files of projects saved by users. Pro/ENGINEER can be used for developing assembly systems and manufacturing processes for a wide variety of projects useful in different industries, including construction and engineering. These PRT files consist of important project details. These may include project part structure specifics and 3D modelling attributes. Project files of the Pro/ENGINEER software use the ASM extension. Also called assembly files or projects, these .asm files may consist of multiple .prt files. Users can combine and share different PRT files in a single ASM project, which is useful for project or groupware collaboration. Aside from using the Pro/ENGINEER software to create, open, view and modify PRT files, Adobe Acrobat X may also be used to open files with the .prt extension, along with other programs like Okino Computer Graphics PolyTrans,  Parametric Technology Creo and Autodesk Inventor Fusion.
