What is an itl file and how do I open an itl file?

While the ITE files refer to iTunes extras files, the ITL files refer to iTunes Library Files. These files are the databases that iTunes use for the organization of the files in its music library. Since they are library files, they contain song lists, song ratings, the user playlists created as well as the comments. Apple iTunes can run on both Windows and MAC operating systems, but the ITL files are saved differently by these operating systems. In Windows, users will find ITL files in Documents and SettingsusernameMy DocumentsMy MusiciTunesiTunes Library.itl while in MAC; they are usually found in /Users/username/Music/iTunes/iTunes Library. The ITL files saved in MAC do not really include the ITL file extension, but they are still the same because of the "iTunes Music Library.xml" they save in the same directory wherein this file  allows the music and playlists to be accessed using other applications like iphoto and iMovie.
