Qt Compiled Translation Source Files are encoded in the QM format and is affixed with the QM extension, and is used by the Qt Linguist software. These QM files are generally classified as data files that contain source text and translations into another language and stored in a compact binary format. They are used for performing fast lookups when translating text within a Qt application because they more efficient to load at run time. These files are generated by lrelease, a command from the Qt Linguist toolkit or can also be generated by Qt Linguist. When the command is run, Qt Linguist produces one QM file for each translation source file (.TS file) in the Qt project. They are also referred to as QT message files. The Nokia Qt SDK software can be used in Microsoft Windows based systems, Mac operating systems and Linux to access and run the content stored in these QM files.
