format file com

What is a com file and how do I open a com file?

Also known as DOS command files, the content of a COM file is encoded in binary format and can hold up to 64 Kb of code. These COM files are also classified as executable files, but unlike EXE files, there are no metadata details or file headers attached to a COM file. The content of a .com file usually consists of directives or commands used by built-in DOS resources to perform certain operations. These directives and commands are normally performed through the Windows Command Prompt. The content of these .com files can be viewed and edited using Microsoft Notepad among other text editing programs.
