What is a pack file and how do I open a pack file?

They are called Pack200 Packed Jar Files because they refer to files created using the Pack200 utility; a tool that belongs to the Java 1.5.0 and a tool used to compress .JAR files. PACK files are also known to contain JAR files with up to sixty percent compression rate and these files are used by Java Web Start clients for the retrieval and unpacking of JAR files for Java programs. Aside from being compressed into .PACK.GZ files often, PACK files are also associated with ".jar.pack" extension compound. The main application used to open PACK files is the Oracle Java Web Start application which runs on MAC OS, Windows and Linux machines. Whether the applications users are launching are chat clients, spreadsheet programs, etc. through this software, they can successfully launch these applications without hassle.
