format file pxm

What is a pxm file and how do I open a pxm file?

A PXM, or Pixelmator Image File is a proprietary raster image format used by Pixelmator, an image editing program for Mac OS X. It may include multiple layers, layer masks, colour correction settings, and image metadata. PXM is a lossless format that does not lose quality when saved. PXM files can be exported to more standard image formats within Pixelmator. Pixelmator was built upon a combination of open source and Mac technologies. Pixelmator features selection, painting, navigation, retouching, and color correction tools; as well as layers-based image editing, GPU-powered image processing, color management, automation, and a transparent head-up display user interface for work with images. Pixelmator uses OpenGL and Core Image technologies that utilize the Macintosh's video card for image processing. The first version of the software was released in August of 2007. There are several conversion programs that were created by third parties in order to convert a PXM image file to other file formats.
