What is a pak file and how do I open a pak file?
PAK file is a compressed archive format originating from DOS that can contain many files. The data in a PAK file may be compressed or uncompressed, but is most often compressed using ZLIB.
The .PAK file extension is also used for as PACKAGE file extension was developed by Electronic Arts and used as Electronic Arts Game Package Files as they refer to the resource package files that various Electronic Arts (EA) games use. Electronic Arts, Inc. (EA), known also as EA Games, is an American developer, publisher, marketer and distributor of video games with it's headquarters in Redwood City, California. Founded and incorporated on May 28, 1982 by Trip Hawkins, the company was an early pioneer of the home computer games industry and was notable for promoting the designers and programmers responsible for its games.
EA Games The Sims 1, 2 and 3; Spore, The Sims Online and even Simcity 4, are the games that mainly use these PACKAGE files. These files are necessary for EA games because they contain several game file archives often saved in an XML format. The files also contain information relating to the textures, the game data, the 3D models, the sounds, as well as information about the game characters and neighborhood wherein these files are also saved in DBPF archive format. PACKAGE files can either be edited or repackaged with the use of The Sims 2 free editor called SimPE as well as these files can also be created or modified using The Sims 2 ContentManager.
