format file odt

What is an odt file and how do I open an odt file?

An ODT, or OpenDocument text file is a text document created with Writer, the OpenOffice.org and StarOffice word processor. This software was developed by Sun Microsystems, Inc, and the .odt format is similar to other such text document formats. It is formatted using the OASIS OpenDocument XML-based standard. Furthermore, XML content contained within a ZIP wrapper is what makes up an ODT file. These files are capable of containing text and images, tables as well as various digital objects often used for various document templates can also be inserted or embedded into documents saved in the .odt format.ODT files are able to be opened and edited with any compatible program, including NeoOffice, AbiWord and KWord.
