What is an odc file and how do I open an odc file?
ODC is a connection information file created by Microsoft Excel. It contains properties to connect to, and retrieve data from, an external data source. It may include a connection string, data queries, authentication information, and other settings. The ODC file extension is known as Office Data Connection File, developed by Microsoft. This file format contains connection information file properties to connect to, and retrieve data from an external data source or a Reporting Services Report. It also includes a connection string, data queries, authentication information, and other settings. They can be created using the Data Connection Wizard in Microsoft Excel that generates the connection information using HTML markup with included segments of XML. ODC files are stored using HTML and XML. Existing data connections may be viewed in Excel by selecting Data from Connections. They are used for storing reusable connection information and data query information which is useful for sharing connection information, as well as for performing periodic data refreshes within an Excel workbook. For security reasons, connections to external data may be disabled on your computer. To connect to data when you open a workbook, you must enable data connections by using the Trust Center bar, or by putting the workbook in a trusted location. Files in ODC format can be opened with Microsoft Excel 2011 and Apple Safari in Mac OS platforms. And they can be opened with Microsoft Excel 2010 and Microsoft Internet Explorer in Microsoft Windows platforms.
