ME is a readme file that contains information about a software application. It is often created during the software installation process. ME are plain text files that can be viewed in any text editor. Typical READ.ME file includes installation program instructions, basic functions needed by the program, operational instructions, licensing and copyright information, trouble shooting procedures, acknowledgement and credits, news section for users, certain bugs known for the program, manifest of files, contact information list of the programmer and distributor of the program, program updates, change log files, important notices and warnings listed for the program’s operation. A READ.ME file is sometimes descriptive in nature meaning there are also other types associated with it like README.1st, README.MD, README.TXT, README.WRI, and README.DOC. There may also be additional information that programmers include in their programs besides the README files like FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) and TODO (tags used to indicate planned enhancements). Usually, the name README is the name chosen so that users can easily notice it prompting them to read the information it entails.
