What is an itl file and how do I open an itl file?
ITL are database files used by iTunes to organize its music library. It contains a list of songs in the library, playlists created by the user, song ratings, and comments. The Mac version of the iTunes library file does not include the ITL extension but both Mac and Windows iTunes save a related file called iTunes Music Library.xml in the same directory. This file makes the music and playlists available to other applications such as iPhoto and iMovie on the Mac. Apple iTunes can run on both Windows and MAC operating systems, but the ITL files are saved differently by these operating systems. Windows users can find ITL files located in \Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl while in MAC; they are normally situated under /Users/username/Music/iTunes/iTunes Library. The ITL files saved in MAC do not really include the ITL file extension, but they are still the same because of the "iTunes Music Library.xml" they store in the same directory whereas this file allows the music and playlists to be accessed using different software programs like iphoto and iMovie.
