format file csv

What is a csv file and how do I open a csv file?

A CSV file contains data sets separated by commas, "Comma Separated Values" because the data in these CSV files are details divided by commas into particular sets of information, where each new line represents a new database row, and each database row has one or more fields separated by a comma. CSV files are used for transferring data between databases in a simple text-based format.

These units of data can be entered by users of spreadsheet and text editing applications integrated with support for the creation and also the modification of CSV documents. These database rows are implemented with one or more data fields, and are divided by commas. Microsoft Windows users are able to install spreadsheet and text editing applications developed by Microsoft for storing data which later may be used in database applications. An example of one of these such programs which may be used to create, open, view and edit the content of a CSV file is the Microsoft Excel spreadsheet application. There are also text editors and spreadsheet software that can be installed and used by Linux and Mac users to implement support for creating, opening, viewing and modifying the content of these CSV files.
