format file cdx

What is a cdx file and how do I open a cdx file?

CDX is a Compound Index of files or other data contained in a database, similar to a compact index (IDX) file, but the leaf nodes at the lowest level of a compound index point to one of the tags in the index. The compound index is the native database index format used by FoxPro.

Leaf nodes in the lower sections of this compound index kept in a CDX file are associated with tags in the index, unlike the index of an IDX file. The content of these CDX files are generally indices of data found in a supported database. Microsoft developed the CDX format and the Microsoft Visual FoxPro program, which is an application that can be used to create, open and view the content of a CDX database file for further modification. Microsoft Windows users can install the Microsoft Visual FoxPro software and create and view the content of these CDX files or add content to existing CDX database files. The native index database files implemented by the Microsoft Visual FoxPro software are CDX files with compound indices.
