The BRSTM file extension is a data format associated to Nintendo Wii games. BRSTM files are audio files that contain sound effects or background music that is looped during gameplay. They are used in games such as Super Smash Bros.Brawl and Mario Kart Wii. Technically, they consist of a 64 bytes header, followed by a 256 bytes HEAD chunk, a 1216 bytes ADPC chunk and a DATA chunk that holds the ADPCM sound data. BRSTM stands for Binary Revolution Stream and they are compressed lossless audio files. Files in BRSTM format can be opened with BrawlBox and Brawl Custom Song Maker in Microsoft Windows based platforms. They can be converted to WAV, MP3, OGG, or FLAC files. Additional software can also be used to ensure volume fixes in looping such as Audacity or Goldwave. Looping songs should be done seamless which means that the song sounds continuous without a break.
