What is a ram file and how do I open a ram file?

RAM is a link file used by RealPlayer, a program used for streaming Internet audio and video. RAM files are saved in plain text and contain a hyperlink to a corresponding RA file, which can be streamed. They include a pnm or rtsp URL, which are the protocols used to access and play RealAudio data. First released in April of 1995, RealAudio is a proprietary audio format developed by RealNetworks. It uses a several different audio codecs, ranging from low-bitrate formats that can be used over dialup modems, to hi-fi formats for music. It also has the ability to be used as a streaming audio format, that is played at the same time as it is downloaded. previously many internet radio stations used RealAudio to stream their programming over the internet in real time. RAM files can be converted into MP3 files using a 3rd party conversion utility software.
