The content of a Quicken Financial Exchange File is stored in the QFX format and is appended with the QFX extension, and is used by the Quicken software. These QFX files are generally classified as proprietary data files that contain account balances, transactions, and other updated information recorded in a standardized format. They are generated by various financial institutions such as banks and credit card companies and so financial institutions have to pay a licensing fee to Intuit in order to create QFX files for their customers. They are used to allow the Quicken software to communicate with financial institutions.
